The 2 stripes = enlisted rank of Corporal (E-4)

Corporal = non-commissioned officer status

The single hash mark means I served more than 4, but less than 8 years

My length of service was 6 years

Duty Stations:  MCB Camp Pendleton (CA)

                           MCB Camp Lejeune (NC)

                           MCB 29 Palms (CA)

                           MCB Camp Garcia (Vieques, PR)

The ribbons represent medals I am entitled to wear.  They are displayed in the mandated "order of precedence"

Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal

In recognition of 3 years of continuous good behavior and faithful service in the Marine Corps

Marine Corps Organized Reserve Medal

Awarded to members of the Marine Corps Reserve who fulfilled designated service requirements within any four-year period of service in the Organized Marine Corps Reserve, including having a combined average of conduct and proficiency markings of 4.0 or above out of a possible 5

National Defense Service Medal

The National Defense Service Medal was awarded to all service personnel who served on active duty during a period of recognized national emergency (In my case, the Viet Nam conflict)

Sharpshooter Badge

Rifle qualification ranking earned during basic training

What it all means:

Simply put, I served for 6 years in the USMCR, did my time without getting into trouble and received an Honorable Discharge.
